Bio
Paintings constructed from vivid imagination, Shine's world takes you to unusual places in time and space. Combined with Pop Art, Surrealism, Graffiti, Hip Hop Culture and a touch of New Zealand - it is a most distinctive style. And through Shine's humor, questions of authority and religion are often raised amongst quirky characters and subjects.
Born Simon Darlington in Thames Coromandel, December of 1972, Shine moved to the big smoke of West Auckland Titirangi when he was a small boy and resides there today. Impressed and influenced by 80's television, music and the New York Graffiti Movement, Shine finds inspiration from the days of his youth as a young artist. His art is far removed from the common image of the sheep and green of New Zealand. However, he's as much a Kiwi lad as us all.
Majoring in painting, Shine graduated from Auckland Unitec in 2005 where he received a bachelor in Visual Communication.
